At the tasting bar ... Friday Dec. 7, 2018 - Privato Winery

A hidden gem in the heart of BC’s exciting new Thompson Valley wine region, Privato is a family owned boutique winery dedicated to the production of premium Burgundian styled wine.

Handcrafted only in small quantities, Privato offers among the best of BC in small lot Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Owners John and Debbie Woodward are very proud of their wines and with each vintage strive to achieve the highest quality possible in their wines. Their flagship pinot noir has been recognized among the best in the country with a recent double gold medal at the All Canadian Wine Awards.

Here is what we are tasting with Laurie from the winery...

Pinot Gris 2016

A fruit forward wine, aromas of warm granny smith apples, white nectarines and floral jasmine are dominant on the nose. Delicate flavours of nectarines and floral notes are showcased by hints of citrus on the palate. This is Privato’s second vintage of Pinot Gris produced from well established vines in Lake Country. Gently pressed to minimize extraction of harsh components from the skins and seeds. This Pinot Gris will go with just about everything. It pairs well with delicately flavored dishes with rich sauces. Backyard BarBQ’s, especially halibut, Thai food such as green coconut curries, mussels in a creamy sauce laced with Pinot Gris are all excellent options.

Rose 2016

An inviting shade of strawberry, this Rose is bursting with aromas of red plum, rose petal and lavender. On the palate, flavours of fresh raspberry and plum combine with a bright acidity and dry finish to round out this perfect patio wine.

Chardonnay 2016

Notes of toasted oak and vanilla biscuit are balanced with the bright citrus and stone fruit flavours in this well rounded, elegant wine.

With its refreshing citrus and apple notes, this Chardonnay pairs beautifully with rich dishes like steak bernaise, creamy risotto or eggs benedict with Hollandaise sauce! Equally as nice are grilled chops with a selection of summer fresh red peppers, butternut squash and fresh baby potatoes with hint of dill.

Pinot Noir 2016

This 2016 vintage is an expression of sun-warmed black and ruby plums, blackberry jam and hints of wild thyme. A lingering soft palate together with approachable tannins add to the elegance of this wine.

Dishes with a touch of spice, seared salmon or tuna, barbecues, roast beef, beetroot dishes and especially dishes that feature cherries or figs.

Tesoro Pinot Noir 2015

“Tesoro” meaning treasure in Italian exemplifies the elegance and finesse of our flagship Pinot Noir. This wine is patiently aged for 18 months in French oak before resting an additional year in the bottle. Earthy notes are accompanied by aromas of raspberry and black currents. On the palate, a soft, silky mouthfeel compliments the layers of lasting fruit flavours.
