Friday April 20 tasting with Elizabeth from Arrowleaf Cellars

This friday we will be hosting Elizabeth from Arrowleaf Cellars in Lake Country, BC.

ARROWLEAF CELLARS is a family run business owned and operated by Joe and
Margrit Zuppiger and their son, Manuel Zuppiger. The Zuppigers immigrated to Canada from Switzerland in 1986. Having run both fruit growing and dairy operations, Joe and Margrit were looking to try something new. In 1996 they purchased Suncrest Vineyard with the goal of starting a land based winery. Manuel went back to Switzerland to train as a winemaker and returned with a keen interest to make wine in the fledgling Okanagan wine region. Arrowleaf officially opened its doors in the spring of 2003 with its first vintages of 2001 reds and 2002 whites.

They are one of the first winery in BC and produce many award winning wines. Please join us in welcoming them to our tasting bar.

Elizabeth in store 3:30-6:30pm

Pinot Gris 2017 $20.99

The growing season stays frost-free until late fall, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and produce subtle flavours while retaining plenty of natural acidity. We ferment and age the wine in stainless steel to produce a crisp, fruit-forward Pinot Gris. Ripe apple, pear, peach and delicate floral aromas. The palate shows good minerality and extract, with refreshing acidity and fruit flavour on the finish. Try it with glazed salmon, crab cakes, mild Indian curries or vegetable lasagna.

Bacchus 2016 $17.99

Bacchus is a Riesling x Sylvaner x Müller-Thurgau cross that produces lively, aromatic wines that are naturally low in alcohol. The variety excels in cool climates and it has thrived on the upper bench of our Suncrest vineyard since it was planted in 1986. Perhaps best known as our most refreshing summer wine, Bacchus also makes a great aperitif wine any time of the year.
Floral, elderflower, grapefruit, lemon, peach and a hint of muscat. The palate is fresh and light with lingering flavours of fresh herbs, citrus and grapefruit.

Rose 2017 $20.99

To make this wine we crush the grapes and hold them in a tank for 12 to 24 hours or just long enough for the juice to extract a small amount of color from the skins. As soon as the juice takes on a light pink hue, we press it from the skins and ferment it cool to preserve the lovely berry and floral aromas. The bouquet has aromas of strawberry, cranberry, grapefruit and rose petals. The palate is rich and full, presenting abundant fruit flavor and a touch of minerality on the finish.

Pinot Noir 2015 $22.99

The wine is aged in a mix of new and older French oak puncheons, which impart only subtle notes of oak and preserve the grape's natural aromatics. Rich cherry and raspberry aromas combine with subtle notes of vanilla, leather and earth. This Pinot Noir has a rich, silky texture and interesting complexity. Recommended food pairings are chicken, duck, wild mushroom risotto or Gruyere cheese.

Zweigelt 2015 $22.99

On the bouquet it shows abundant black cherry, plum, coffee and clove aromas. The taste is medium bodied with rich fruit, spice and vanilla flavours lingering on the finish. Pair with tomato-sauce based pastas, roast lamb or smoked sausage cassoulet.
