Monte Creek Cabernet Merlot
This Cabernet Merlot is a blend of 69% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc sourced from three carefully selected vineyards in Oliver, Osoyoos and the Similkameen. The fruit was partially fermented in our 7,000 L oak vats, creating a rounder, smoother texture than fermentation in stainless steel, then aged 18 months in French oak barrels. Only 15-20% new barrels were used in order to add weight and texture without overpowering the fruit.
The wine has ripe plum fruit and cassis liqueur characters lifted by notes of forest floor and licorice. It is full-bodied with abundant ripe and polished tannins. This is balanced by rich plum and black cherry fruit, enhanced by blackberry and subtle baking spice notes.
The fruit and substantial structure stands up beautifully to smoked duck breast with berry compote.
