This big, rich, ripe merlot is almost enough to match the heft of its ginourmous, overweight bottle. And working your way through the wax on the cork, 1/2 centimetre thick, will certainly work up an appetite for this toothsome, chewy red. Sourced entirely from the Golden Mile, this is lined with cedar and filled with perfumed violets, ripe red cherries, kirsch and baking spices. Tannins are ample but plush, working to cushion all this weight. You can enjoy this hedonistic red solo, or with your rare beef tenderloin.
